Sunfish Dreamworld

Hello, I'm Rin! I use this website as a creative expression for myself and don't really have an audience in mind, but I'm thankful for anyone that enjoys what they see here. Besides coding, some of my hobbies include drawing and crafting, writing, watching anime, and reading. Sometimes I indulge in these things, and sometimes I don't, so I try to be more involved and consistent with my hobbies and interests by sharing them here. Though I first started learning how to code in the beginning of 2022, it wasn't until March of 2024 when I got more into coding and less into most social media platforms. I thought that working on my own projects would be a nice change of pace— and it definitely has been. This site gets updated quite often, so feel free to visit every now and then!

For anyone who has any questions, concerns, or just wants to reach out about something, you can email me or message me elsewhere. I'm also open to chatting with people that might have similar interests to me and think we'd get along, but please be at least 18! If you want to leave behind an anonymous or public message for my site, you can use my guestbook. Don't be shy!

You're most definitely wondering how I came up with a username as interesting as Sunfish Dreamworld. This is something I've been wanting to write about for a while now, and this site gives me a good excuse to do so! I came up with my username near the end of summer in 2022, so it's strange to think about how “new” it still is, at least, compared to the other username that I had for nearly 7 years...

I've always been a fan of horror, but in 2022, I was really interested in liminal spaces, especially locations that had water where water shouldn't be. I know that's weirdly specific, but there was something about this subgenre of horror that I found really intriguing. I've also been a fan of weird usernames I would see online from time to time, or those music playlists on YouTube with cryptic titles.

In 2020, I watched a video that featured this girl. You've probably seen her before, especially since she was really popular a few months ago (for some reason). I was immediately captivated by her off-putting face, and the website that she's from is even more bizarre. The name of it stuck with me too. イルカの夢でさようなら, or “Goodbye in the Dream of a Dolphin”. You can probably already see the parallels between that and Sunfish Dreamworld. It wasn't until not that long ago when I found out that Iruka is a musical artist who isn't so mysterious, and I was kind of sad that this wasn't some sort of weird unfiction where no one knew where this girl came from or what the point of her was. It felt like knowing where she came from kind of made her less unsettling and interesting, but now I'm just complaining!

I didn't go with the sea creature motif just because of Iruka— I've loved a lot of things related to the ocean ever since I was little. There were a lot of sea creatures that I really liked, and I learned more and more about them through Animal Crossing: City Folk. I never knew that sunfish existed until I caught one for the first time, and I've been obsessed with them since then! I love how they look in the game, and it wasn't until later when I found out just how huge they actually are.

I actually thought that Sunfish Dreamworld was too good of a name, and I even considered using it for my own horror/unfiction story (that I haven't made any progress with (yet)) instead of my online identity. It's kind of weird to think how it was just going to be a temporary username, but that's just who I am now.

    Questions from this prompt list.

  • angel; have you ever been in love?
  • I think a lot of people have been in love at some point. *averting my eyes*

  • petal; favorite novel and author?
  • I've been enjoying the Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official's Blessing) novels by Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù, though my favorite author is (or was) Banana Yoshimoto because the way she writes sometimes reminds me of how my thought process works (that being a bit unnatural). If I include mangaka, Natsuki Takaya is especially a recent favorite of mine. I've been showing off a lot of her side notes from Furuba to my friends, and I'm honored that they compare my writing style and personality to hers.

  • honey perfume; favorite perfume/scent?
  • I have lotion from Vaseline of a lavender scent that I find nostalgic. It reminds me of some sort of lotion or powder that a relative used. I've also been using "A Thousand Wishes" perfume from Bath & Bodyworks that I really like.

  • sweet pea; what's your zodiac?
  • I'm a Pisces, but I never bothered to remember my other signs. As for Chinese zodiacs, I share mine with Ritsu from Fruits Basket.

  • softie; talk about your sexuality.

  • sugarplum; what's the color of your eyes and hair?
  • Hazel eyes + "dark chocolate" hair.

  • wings; coffee or tea?
  • I became a tea fan earlier this year, but I usually don't have it if I can't add sugar to it. My favorites are probably oolong and chamomile. Coffee has always tasted gross to me, and when I drink it every now and then, I always end up crashing and burning.

  • fairytale; are you a cat or dog person?
  • I'm definitely more of a cat person, but I don't mind most dogs. They're just really loud and sometimes overwhelming.

  • feather; which mythical creature would you transform into if you could?
  • Unicorns are probably more fitting for me, but I also like kitsune (mostly because of human-kitsune hybrids in anime).

  • snowflake; favorite time period?
  • I can't think of one right now, though I just enjoy listening to others talk about their favorites. Besides the Industrial Revolution and everything afterwards. Snooooore.

  • nymph; name 3 films that have changed your life and have shaped you into the person you are today.
  • I wouldn't say any movies changed my life or anything because that's kind of dramatic. I appreciate a few of them though, like how Yobi the Five Tailed Fox was what led me to getting really into anime.

  • vanilla; do you believe in ghosts?
  • No, though I don't mind if others do.

  • delicate; diamonds or pearls?
  • I think I like pearls more. They remind me of the dress that Tsukimi makes in Princess Jellyfish.

  • lavender dream; favorite album?
  • I'm not really an album person. I just listen to one or two songs from a given artist and rarely go out of my way to listen to more of their works. Kikuo has a lot of good albums, though...

  • silky; what's your biggest dream?
  • It probably isn't a surprise, but I would love to travel to Japan one day, maybe with a friend who is just as geeky as me. I'm nowhere near close to achieving that, but it's called a dream for a reason!

  • strawberry kiss: do you have a crush right now?
  • My heart belongs to bishies and bishies only. Especially this one.
  • Nobody-Asked Questions

    Can my graphics be used?
  • The fujoshi above, the "made by a girl" pixel art, and the yume-ring graphic are all personalized to look like me + my art isn't meant to be reuploaded, so it's best not to use those, please and thank you. All of the other graphics on this site aren't made by me, so I don't mind at all.

  • How did I do (XYZ)?
  • I add "Stack Overflow" at the end of all of my searches when I want to figure out how to do/fix things, and I also look at various sites for inspiration. I'll right-click on something from a site and mess with the code inspection (if a site owner didn't disable right-clicking/Ctrl+U, which is something I don't do) just to see how it works. You can look through my code for some snippets, but don't be too greedy!

  • Do I do art trades?
  • I'm open to the idea. I'm really interested in doing trades with some artists and I'd love to have more experience with drawing for others. I've only been doing sketches lately, though. ^.^;

  • What does "if this site unexpectedly goes inactive, assume that something out of my control happened" on my index page mean?
  • My intention for having that message here is to clear up any mysteries in the future. I don't want to abandon my site (especially without saying anything), but in case something out of my control happens and if this site still remains, I'd like to give people some sort of explanation.
